Biography

Helena Jackson-Lloyd is a visual artist based at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. She holds Bachelor degrees in both Visual Art and Art Education from Queensland University of Technology.

“I am working fulltime on my practice, which includes regularly exhibiting and being a finalist in a number of shows…. recently finalist in the in the Milburn Art Prize (2021) and John Leslie Art Prize(2020, and Major Winner at the Inaugural 2019 Du Reitz Art Awards.”

“Working en plein air (on location) is an important part of my practice. I am particularly interested in the Australian landscape.

I draw much inspiration from living on the Sunshine Coast.

I take my ‘en plein air’ work into the studio, where with my memory, experience and understanding, translate my drawings and paintings into large scale abstract landscape paintings. Here I aim to capture the essence of a place and my response to it. For me this is not a literal thing and is best served as an abstract process.

It is the love of materiality, surface and mark making that captures my interest as an artist, but ultimately this is my method for creating a visual language to connect with the essence of place and life”.

Helena Jackson-Lloyd is a regular exhibitor with the gallery. Helena held her first solo exhibition at Cool Art in May 2019 with; The Truck Show: an alternate landscape. She has also participated in the selected group shows; IN:SITU, an en plein air group show in August included in the HORIZON Festival 2019 program, and TWELVE, featuring 12 contemporary women artists from the Sunshine Coast in late 2018. Helena was a formidable contributor to our inaugural “New Beginnings” exhibition in December 2017, at the new gallery space for Cool Art Picture Framing + Gallery in the Coolum Industrial Park.
